Our Competitions
Each year Rakaia Pony Club organises a number of competions.    These are generally highly sought after and very well attended so if you are interested and see them advertised get your entries in fast!
January - our Dressage & Jumping Day
A day for experienced riders and/or horses with the dressage tests and jump heights reflect this. A great day out with some reasonably serious competition but also a great chance to have a go at a higher level than you have been working at with a view to your coming years competition.
May - our Beginner Dressage, Show Jumping & Derby Day
This is a great day out for beginner riders of all ages, green horses, and those that are nowhere near NZEF level but want to have a go! A focus on Dressage, all tests may be called and we encourage you to try two. Classes by age groups but older riders can ride Non competitively in any class they wish. The day finishes with some lower level show jumping & derby (show jumps & cross country jumps), all at smaller heights but good experience.
July - our One Day Event
Held in whole at the Cross Country Course on the banks of the Rakaia River. A top mid-Canterbury course that is known to hold its challenges, it promises to be a great day for all that attend. Springston Trophy (a South Island wide eventing competition) was held on this course in 1995.
Regularly attracting 200 or more competitors, and even more supporters, this is one of the major events on the Canterbury Pony Clubs calenders.
And the views on a clear day looking up the river to snow capped Mt Hutt and the Alps are well worth the visit too!
Note, the course is not acessed from the Clubrooms & grounds, see the 'Finding Us' page for details of where to locate it.
