Its the start of a new season and time to brush off the cobwebs!
This is a reminder of some of the rules & etequette that all riders must follow. With a little care and thought everyone can have a wonderful day.
During your final warm up (around the ring) please ensure you go around the arena past the judges to to present your backnumber or horse ID for identification.
Rule 451 para 7 states that 'After the sound of the bell, the competitor should enter the arena at A as soon as possible. Exceeding 45 seconds before entering after the bell could entail eliminatin at the discretion of the Ground Jury. the same applies to a competitor who enteres the arena at A before the start signal has been given"
If the rules allow for a caller for your test, rul 452 para 3 states that the Commander must stand outside the arena opposite either B or E according to the wind." Para 5 "If, in the opionion of the Judges the commander makes any variation from the text of the test or does anything to assist the competitor by signal, remakrs or inflection of the voice, a penalty may be recorded equal to that of the error of course that would have occured had the assistance not been given."
Rule 451 para 10 "...Any outside intervention by voice, signes etc is considered as assistance to a rider or his horse. A rider or horse getting assistance must be eliminated."
Although its tempting to warm up in an arena during tea break, rule 473 para 1 says "On no account and under penalty of disqualification may a competitor/horse/pony use the competition arenas at any time other than during his performance in a competition."
Try to be sensible when lunging and warming up to not go too close to arenas where others are competing. Bear in mind how you would appreciate beint treated.
If you are spectating or have friends/family watching you please remember that you should be at least 15m from the arena. (rule 472 para 5) Again keep in mind how to treat others as you wish to be treated - flapping plastic bags, blankets, umbrellas, loud clapping & cheering may not be so supportive to the horse in the next arena!
Have respect for the judges and please do not walk between them and the arena blocking their view.
