Blyth Tait Visit...
On Sunday 11th February 2007 Rakaia Pony Club was spoilt in having Blyth Tait come to visit and instruct as a result of our Pony Club winning a competion at Horse of the Year in 2006.
Blyth worked with riders of all ages and levels, the photo above showing him with Aleisha on Roxy, Melissa on Charlie. (Others in the group were just out of the picture.)

In the background Kevin Lawrence & Jennifer Howard are looking on.

The girls really enjoyed him and he worked with them on keeping a steady rythym and also had the girls doing 'snakes' or serpentines in the arena
Left:  This photo shows Kate on Sweetie, Becky on Smokey & Georgie on Bickie, again, others not quite in the picture.

Blyth spoke to the girls about the importance of position and gave some excellent visual demonstrations of this! He then had the girls ride a course putting this into practice.
A demonstration on position and the importance of it being correct when jumping.

He also worked with the girls on gaining and keeping impulsion and the importance of maintaining the rythym while being able to increase and decrease stride lengths.

The girls were very surprised when he offered to hop on a horse to demonstrate that a horse can be taught to increase and decrease its stride length without loosing momentum or rythmn.

After 5 minutes of Blyth working with Ada, she was able to perfectly demonstrate exactly what Blyth was explaining to the girls.
Blyth was very visual in his demonstrations making it easy to understand exactly what he was getting at.
There was a large group of parents and visitors that also enjoyed the day.

At lunch time we all sat around and enjoyed  getting to know Blyth better.  It was great to hear some stories from his past and to be encouraged by him to reach for the top.

Much thanks to Blyth for his time and expertise - we enjoyed your presence with us imensely and everone was able take something to work on and remember (particularly the story about your very first pony, we'll never forget that one!!!)
